Hello! I'm Jean

Hello! My name is Jean and my passion for history has been a guiding force in my life, from Ancient Egypt to Renaissance England, and everything in between. I look for answers to histories’ mysteries while enjoying all the fascinating bits and pieces that make up our understanding of time and events.

My passion started with the 1936 movie Mary of Scotland, starring Katherine Hepburn. Curiosity – which definitely does not kill the cat – drove me to research how much of the movie was true. By the way, I saw the movie in the seventies, so I’m younger than you just imagined in your head!

After that, I was hooked on history and have never looked back. After studying History and Anthropology at Eastern Oregon University, I began to look more in depth at the women who, against all odds, helped shape what was a man’s world, changing the course of history as they did.

From Hatshepsut declaring herself a pharaoh and adopting the royal beard in order to identify with the god Osiris, to Elizabeth I ruling England with ‘the heart and stomach of a man” despite John Knox declaring that the “monstrous regiment of women” was against God’s laws. There is no doubt that women have shaped our world.
